The Whigs assembled in the West of Virginia and Carolina. For help, Ferguson sent on to Cornwallis. The Whigs assaulted Ferguson and his military on 7 October 1780 on the King’s Mountain and won the Battle inside 60 minutes (Hammett). In the Battle of King’s Mountain, 300 Tories were slaughtered and injured and another 700 were detained by the Whigs. 90 Whigs were slaughtered in the Battle. The accomplishment of the Whigs made Cornwallis surrender the expectation of attacking North Carolina.
